Achieve Your Goal – Shout it Out!

by | Jul 24, 2013 | Health & News | 2 comments

Studies have shown that by stating your goal, such as weight loss, publicly, there is a far greater chance that you will achieve that goal. The greater the public declaration, the more motivated people are to achieve their goals. By sharing our goals with friends, family, and others, we are much more likely to keep our promises than if we kept them to ourselves.  It is too easy for many of us to avoid changing our lives and we commonly drift back to old habits and routines.

Girl Shouting Out

That is why I made the bold step to publicly announce my weight loss goals and even posted before and after pictures. (yes, a bit scary!!)  Talk about a public statement!  Yet, by doing this, multiple feats were accomplished.

  • I achieved my goal of losing 15 lbs.
  • I didn’t kill anyone doing so.
  • Visible results were shared publicly by posting my before and after pictures.
  • Graph of weight loss was posted.

Questions & Answers

Below are some tips that I found while researching weight loss which I wanted to share with you.

Seven Tips for Weight Loss and Maintaining that Success. ¹

  1. Keep a food journal – This is an excellent tool to track your caloric intake and makes you more aware of what your are taking in.

  2. Make friends with your scale – Some people like to weigh themselves every day while others may decide to do so weekly.  Weight creeps up over time and by weighing yourself you can keep track and make immediate corrections to your diet.

  3. Save Your Skinny Jeans- These are the jeans that you want to fit in once you’ve lost your weight.  It is a visual reminder of your goal and helps keep you on track.

  4. Go Steady with Your Diet BFF – Having a diet buddy not only reinforces accountability but also provides positive weight-loss and weight maintenance motivation.

  5. Use a Tape Measure– Many times the scale won’t show any pounds lost but your measurements will show marked success.  Because muscle takes us less volume than fate, you’ll see inches even when there may not be a corresponding change on the scale.  By measuring your neck, bust, waistline, hips and thighs, you can record tangible progress toward your goal.

  6. Chart Your Fitness Feats- Keep a fitness log.  It can be as easy as marking an “X” on the calendar when you met your exercise goals.  By marking this, it motivates you to continue and not break the chain of accomplishment.

  7. There’s an App for That – If you can’t afford a personal trainer, there are some great apps to stick to your weight loss diet and set new goals.  Some favorites are : MyFitnessPal, LoseIt!, and SparkPeople.
