As we move into our 40s and 50s we can get stronger, more fit, healthier, and more vibrant!  That’s what I call Aging Gracefully – looking and feeling your best without plastic surgery or crazy diets. As a doctor, I’ve shared these youth-saving tips with thousands of women who have seen great results.

1. Maintain healthy weight and muscle mass –  As we age, we lose muscle and tend to pack on the pounds. Spice up your exercise schedule to make it fun. Find a workout buddy with similar goals and don’t forget resistance training. It will keep your body looking toned and more youthful.

2. Reduce your stress level- Stress is one the most harmful things that make us age quicker and increases our risk for certain diseases, such as Diabetes and Cancer

3. Practice Gratitude Did you know that this can reduce your risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia.  Be thankful for all of the gifts that you have in your life and send love to each of them – from your pets to your friends and family and beyond.

4. Eat a rainbow of foods – loaded with vitamins and antioxidants to keep your brain sharp and skin glowing, lessening the onset of wrinkles. It may surprise you, when you read my guide, which specific fruits and vegetables may be game-changers for your health.

5. Hydrate – Did you know there’ a good chance you might be dehydrated? Over 75% of the world is. You need to drink at least ½ of your body weight in ounces of water/day.  If you’re a vigorous exerciser, you will need even more.

6. Get your ZZZ’sSleep deprivation leads to weight gain, brain fog, diabetes and high blood pressure. That’s why it’s critical to get your 7-8 hours a night for your body to replenish and maintain optimal health and wellness.

7. Get Moving –  at least 150 minutes of cardiovascular exercise/week and add strength training, yoga on the other days. One of my favorites is tennis which also adds the benefit of having fun with friends.

8. Make time for intimacy with your partner –  Studies have shown that by having a healthy sex life, you will be happier, more youthful, live a longer life and have a smile on your face!

9. Get social GIRLS NIGHT! Sharing a glass of wine, a brisk walk and talk, a girls getaway will all contribute to your happiness and quality of life and keep many diseases at bay, especially dementia.

10. Love yourself – Celebrate your body, mind and spirit each and every day. You are beautiful! Practicing self-compassion is one of the most important keys to aging gracefully.
